drive shaft

i just spent the last 2 hours trying to get my drive shaft in and it wont go. there is a brass cup around the end the the trans where the drive shaft goes, my question is this, can i cut the cup to fit the drive shaft? or is that a bad idea?. i only need like 1/4 inch more room if not lees than that. any ideas would be great.

Take a hammer and tap the brass piece off. I had to remove mine because my custom driveshaft yoke was so large in diameter.

ok sounds good. will it come off with out a fight or is uit going to be a bitch and is there any harm that can come from doing so

You should be out taking this off instead of asking overly detailed questions. lol

There is nothing to protect the seal from debris... which is the downside. There is no real way around it though.

u should insert the trans side first to tell u the truth and then just bolt up the rear its the proper way to do it o and dont remove the cup cuz like its beeen said before ull get dirt and etc in ur seals which will then crack and leak

ok but the drive shaft is like 1/4 inch or less to long to fit. thats what the problem is. if i dont have to take off the cup that even better but at the same time i dont want to have to buy a new driveshshaft

FYI, that seal is cheap and easy to replace. I daily my car and pulled that cup 4 years ago and the seal is still in good shape.

If your driveshaft is too long, you need to have it shortened at a driveshaft shop. or move the motor/trans forward. There needs to be about 1/2" of space between the front of the driveshaft yoke and the trans tail shaft to get it installed.

i dont see how your driveshaft is not fitting. Rb20 swaps with Mckinney mounts use the stock driveshaft. Ill take a look at it tomorrow

Is this the same car that had the shifter end up sitting in a wierd place? I dunno I get these things confused alot.

not really hard 1 hell of a time just getting it to fit right the first time

not much room to play around with

take the mounts off put the motor on a cherrypicker, install drive shaft, install mounts again

IF you have to slide the motor forward to install the driveshaft, its too long... regardless.

Four hours to get it in place? Don't worry you will get faster with practice.

no dude seriously the fucker would not go in at all!! i was there the whole time and it would not get on the mounts for some odd reason... and its not like i dont konw what im doin either.. i dropped my rb30 in my car and it only took 30 min to mount it to the chassis.. took much longer to take the motor off the stand and hook up tranny than to get it in the car... Robs car is totally other way around.. wouldnt mount

Sounds like the mounts are jacked... seeing as how you cant get the driveshaft in either.

i dont know but the car has a personality all her own and that is gods truth. lol funny story. my buddy yelled at her and she wouldnt start for anything. he popped the hood nothing was wrong. i got in and it started right up no problem lol. she deffinitly has a mind of her own.

lol well after about 20 mins of playing with the drive shaft last night i decided to just cut the brass cup off. well it worked wonders. so thank you (to the guy that said to do that)
