Drag Racing a 240
what would you guys and girls recommend incorporating into a 240 so that it can survive multiple strip runs with reliability of a street car and making sufficient power( that can be controlled on the street) i say this because im looking to get a 240 late fall(when i get back from boot camp and get part of my enlistment bonus) and make it a street strip car for me and friends to race and hopefully settle a fun family rivalry at strip. So any ideas would be appreciated, previosusly run setups etc...
Thanks
Shawn harris
P.S. hopefully i will one day i would like to run a LS1 N/A setup with maybe a 150 Shot on A MAF based system( if i can get the money)
Thanks

Re: Drag Racing a 240
Input shaft on sr trans is weak so if you have power and dumping the clutch at 4k it's going to break that's reallly the worst thing about drag racing sr

Stick a z32 trans on the back and your worries will dissappear... plus I have a z32 trans for sale LOL.

Ls1
2JZ
Ls1 is straight nasty, I/H/C and a 150 shot on a Camaro WILL and DOES go 10's,
My friend has a 01 Camaro SS and he went 10.90 on a 6spd with bolt ons, head work, cam, and a 150 shot. He blew the trans like 3 years later racing a bike on the freeway (downshifted a few to many) then he went with a TH400 (auto) and the car went 10.30's and now he has a built rear end in it. Those motors are monsters His has been going 10's since 02-03 WITHOUT any motor work, that's some reliability if you ask me. and you can find used parts pretty damn cheap and there are 2 or 3 people out there that make Swap kits for the LSX based 240sx's. Plus there is ALOT of big power LS1 guy's in the Midwest that can help you and there is alot of LSX powered S-chassis cars coming out of the wood work.
2JZGTE to get 400WHP out of it is a cake walk. Front mount intercooler, downpipe, exhaust, boost cut controller, boost controller and you should make 400whp (as long as you have a USDM motor or atleast the us cams, turbos, injectors) proof click here and if you look there, it will show a supra at BPU could go 11's from 111-118mph. not to mention if you run race gas which bpu car's LOVE. Or there is a "ebay" supra single turbo kit with a T61 turbo that will up it to 500+HP and as long as you can get the car to hook it's golden.
It's EASY to make 450+ HP safely on a LS1/2JZ. to make a SAFE reliable SR20/KA your gonna need rod's,pistons, turbo upgrade, head work, cams, etc. PLUS then your gonna need a Z32 (300zx) trans or an american C4 trans . where as the LSX/2JZ you don't have to worry about that problem.
only downside IMO with a LSX car is the TQ, yes it is nice and good to have it but too much in a little sub 3000lbs car can hurt.
here is a quote to live by. "Speed is a matter of money, how fast do you want to go?"

Re: Drag Racing a 240
I'm going with Flick on this one, Not to say building from little to great can't be done, but reliability is out the window. If your talking speed, start with a stronger stock motor. A strong motor with minor add-ons > A smaller motor built to the hilt. I love the smaller displacement motors, but I'd say that 3l is a sweetspot. You can go 2 ways. Both will give you the holy shi*t what is in that car response, but do you want to stay with a japanese heritage with one sick sounding setup, or an American Muscle balls to the wall rig (again I wish you best of luck with hooking, and STREET ability)
I know your looking to run this as a DD, I'd run a 2J with a good adjustable boost gauge to tame it when it comes to in and around busy or pouplated traffic But out on the strip, match it with a good set of tires, suspension to match and dial it in. Besides you want people to look at you and say 2J... no shit... right?
wish ya the best of luck, and welcome to Midwest! Happy 240'ing

LOL if you think that you must be a fan boy..... If anything the s-chassis is a very great grip car. It just happens to be good for drifting due to the versatility of the chassis and the large aftermarket centered around drifting.
As far as Drag I would say one of two engines:
LS1 - raw power, un matched after market support and potential, great fitment, weight, easy to get parts for, cheap to buy and install, probalby under 6k for setup.
KA-T - cheaper then LS1 swap, but not cheaper when built. Easy to get parts for, cheap engines, make good power when built right and its already in the car.
The rest is all about traction and putting the power down reliably. Major issue with the S-chassis especially the lighter S13s is that once you make over 300 whp the car is a freakin beast to keep straight. If you ever drive a 300+ whp S-chassis and you power shift you will most likelly have the rear end kick out. But there have been numerous drag cars out there running 10s and faster so I would look into their setups for guidance.
