New here.. not exactly an SX..

Post by Zxt_bean on Sun Feb 01, 2009 7:29 pm

Well first off id like to say hi there. I dont exactly drive a 240sx, more like its grandfather. A 1980 Datsun 280zx. I registered here looking for a midwest based Nissan club. I belive I can learn alot from your cars and setups.

well my car started life as a 80' n/a auto. I have since swapped in a l28et from a 81' zx turbo that i parted out. the car is still currently auto. but I am working on bringing home another parts car to fix that.

I decided early on in the swap that the factory EFI was not going to cut it. So I purchased a MSII setup from DIYAUTOTUNE.COM I am now in the final stages of mockup, and hopefully I will be able to start it soon. I will be using a EDIS6 from ford.

here are a few pictures of some of my progress.

I have tons more pictures and other things. Still trying to get a feel for the site. see if im welcome here..

oh i plan on trying to make it to all meets! Im aiming to have the Z drivable by the march meet. there is alot to do, and not alot of time to do it in! I still have to fab up an entire intercooler setup and I think i want to fab up a new WG and down pipe. But seeing as I do not have a welder, I have to try and find someone who is willing to help for a price lol

I had a built L28ET for years, it now resides in ohio. Welcome.

You pulled it with the radiator attached? Thats bizzare!

yes i did pull it will the radiator! I have 3 dogs and didnt want to risk spilling coolant everywhere. some how i actually got it to come out.. although it was a tight fit!

I will have alot more pictures for everyone later on.. I will include my megasquirt install and my edis6 install. so stay tuned.

should i start a thread in the progress section?

Good call on keeping the system sealed, my car had been rolled so the radiator was junk anyway.

You should consider using that sierra coolant (or whatever it is) it is safe for pets. I am always meticulous about coolant cleanup if I spill any.

Build thread would be cool.

agh, sideskirt rust!
my buddy owns a 280z and over the summer we had to cut and weld a lot of sheet metal onto it..
then he left it covered with a tarp this winter, it blew off (white 280z, he didnt know at first), and the snow rusted it..

good luck with it man, be prepared for many hours of work if youre planning on removing it.

there isnt much rust. i towed the car home from knoxville tennessee. where i purchased it from the original owner. who up to 2 yrs earlier, lived in arizona. the only rust on the car is surface at best. except a 3" section under the windshield. ill take pics later on.
