Sleepy eyes anyone? Empty Sleepy eyes anyone?

Post by fastSRmedic Sat Mar 06, 2010 9:49 pm

So I've been trying to figure out a cheap but reliable way to do sleepy eyes. I read a few sites that said you could just pop out the headlight retractor switch and cut a brown wire and that would allow you to do it. I tried this, and my headlights wouldn't go up at all. Scratch that one off the list. So I spliced the brown wire back and now they're working again.

Another thread said there is a headlamp motor fuse in the driver's side kick panel block that, once you position the headlights where you want them, you can pull the fuse and they will stay there with the lights on or off. This worked for me; I toggled the retractor switch with the lights on until they were about halfway up, then pulled the fuse. Now they stay at that position all the time, lights on or off.

My thought is, if I wire a switch on the positive side of the headlamp motor fuse, I can leave the switch ON at night and have the lights fully open, but then turn the switch OFF and do sleepy eyes in the daytime.

Ideas? Thoughts? Anyone do this before?

you cut the brown wire,

turn you headlights on,

hit the headlight button switch thingy.

turn you headlights off, they shouldnt go down.

double tap your headlight button and theyll go down slightly each time

I definitely cut the brown wire, and tried every possible combination of switch and retractor button, and my headlights would not come up, trust me. I turned them on and pushed the button and they would not come up. I pushed the button first then turned them on, still nothing. I couldn't get them to pop up. So I just spliced it back together.

I originally had two toggle switches hooked up to the headlight fuse in the engine bay. I didn't like it so I just bought the pivot controller. They're getting hard to find. I tried three sites before I found one. I even placed the order at one and they debited the money from my account and THEN notified me that they were out of stock. Theres a few on ebay...way over priced though...

I got it all worked out. I spliced a switch in to the wire that goes to the 5 amp headlamp motor fuse that will interrupt the signal when switched off. I can now get the lights to stop wherever I want. Easy $5 solution. Except it was a PITA splicing wires down by the driver's kick panel fuse block. Other than that, nice and straightforward. If anyone wants a detailed explanation just let me know.
