Post by flyinbryan09 Wed Feb 17, 2010 6:54 pm

so im finishing up this mess of an sr20det that i have been dealing with for a couple weeks now. i just put the transmission back in after putting a new clutch and throw out bearing in. everything is going smoothly. i just bled the clutch and now when i start the car it sounds like something is grinding in the tranny. the clutch is really stiff too and when ever i push in the clutch it makes a grinding noise. this is my first time dealing with a transmission so please help me out. thanks.

kind of yea... it
makes a high pitch wining noise. but when you shut off the car it makes like a pinging sound. i emptied a full bottle of that gear oil in there. i heard that everything could not be aligned right but that doesnt make any sense if i got the tranny on without any problems

i doubt that though flick. i was rockin 1 quart in my ka trans and they are practically the same as an sr trans for almost 3 weeks till someone told me it takes 2.5 quarts. nothing happened.now that its a high pitched whining noise which i didn't hear you say before, did you replace the pilot bearing too? or just the throw out.

diddn't say it would solve the issue, but running less then half of the recommend isn't good.

not one bit. im trying to think if the pilot bearing would cause this though... esp if he removed the flywheel and it just kinda fell out.

well i fixed the grinding.. there was 4 bolts that i forgot to put into the top of the tranny lol.. so all the grinding has stopped. but theres another issue. i cant get the car to idle so i can tune it with the distributor cap. itll start just fine, then the rpms will shoot up then go down and itll die. this is my first time dealing with an sr20. is there any tricks i should know about? maybe the computer needs to be re tuned. it has been sitting for a while.

uhhh you mean the cam angle sensor? cas? sr's are on coil packs bro. post a pic of what you say is the distributor. but the idling could be caused by either the throttle plate or the iacv (idle air control valve) try opening the throttle body while someone starts the car see if it starts then. just try a little though.

"the distributor" just leave it in the middle dont touch it, are u getting fuel, spark and compression? make sure u check all that too, and do the throttle thing also that greasemonkey mentioned

alright. i got it to idle okay. there were a couple vacuum lines that were not tight. and im pretty sure the iacv needs cleaning. i can drive it fine. the one thing that upsets me that i found out is i think the turbo is bad.. it sprays oil through the intake and it sounds like shaft play when i start it up.. it does start up just fine though.. There isnt white smoke coming out so i guess thats a good sign still... The idle now fluctuates slowly. when i give it gas it revs up just fine but it cant seem to find where to stay. when i press on the gas there is a little lag too anyone know what that might be? Thanks for the feedback ppl
