my body work
welp as some of you have seen this was my car last summer
i got into a little accident and messep up the front driver side pretty good, but i'm taking auto body at waubonsee so i only have to pay for supplies. so far this is what i've done:
stripped the entire car down due to having 3 thick layers of paint on the car
pulled the front end back into oem spec
removed quarter panel glass and windshield
made a ppatch for inner and outer panel right behind the door where there was a rust spot
i'm fitting the rear bumper of the body kit right now, i have the front bumper and side skirts already fitted
pictarz
and heres an awesome picture of my buddies s4 out in the middle of lake geneva, and yeah they just let you drive out there

Re: my body work
thanks guys, the color i'm leaning towards is black, or a dark dark grey, not 100% on what color its gonna be tho. and that bumper took me about 20 individual cuts to get it to fit like that. as for the meet im going to try to, more then likely my 240 won't be done by then but i may show up anyways

Re: my body work
haha neither, thats one of my buddies cars, and if i got a s15 sr(maybe next winter) i'd probably swap a 5 speed in because i've heard the 6 speeds in the s15 are fragile

Re: my body work
What did you use to strip the body down to bare metal?
Also, what are you using to keep it from rusting up before primer/paint?

Re: my body work
I stripped my last car with a mud hawg, huge d/a sander. I had that thing in bare metal in 8 hours.
I wouldn't recommend stripping a car to metal unless its needed. His car looks very straight, which is awesome. I suspect its not rusting because of the winter dryness.

Re: my body work
well i had two options, either an 8 in d/a sander with a peice of 36 sand paper, or use the sander and chemically strip the fenders and hood, i just chose the sander, much easier on me and cheaper, so far every thing i have done so far has cost about $80. but if you go down to metal be sure to go back over it with 120 sand paper to knock out the 36 scratches and the paint job will come out better. and to keep it from rusting haha nothing, its been like that for about 2 months now and not a spot of surface rust, its in a constintly heated shop and it is dry and dusty in it, in sure that helps.
and i decided to strip it down to metal because there was 5 layers of paint on the car, there was about prolly more then a 1/8 inch of paint on most of the car, factory red, army green, flat black, a primer surfacer type material that was white, then flat black again, yeah it was a bitch, and i needed to replace the windshield anyway because it was cracked in 2 places.
wow long post will have pics in a bit of the color i'm painting it

What shop is that sitting in? Looks familiar but I can't place it.
EDIT; maybe best not to give that info out publicly.

Re: my body work
update... kinda, well the car is in primer surfacer and basically sanded down other then the pas. side door, fenders are primed, just waiting for primer surfacer, also with those fenders i picked up from you 14k, mad bondo on the driver side, thank god my body kits gonna cover most of it up and the fenders had been painted at least 2 times. as for the bodykit...ugh so freaking time consuming trying to get it all smooth and to get into all the little corners. so the cars coming together pretty nicely, gonna have the fenders primer surfaced tomorrow and mounted on the car, then the car will get primer surfacered again, and i'll be working on the bodykit all next week, hopefully thats all it will take. yeah i have pics but am to lazy to put them on my comp, dealing with to much bullshit drama right now.

Re: my body work
the civics an h2b, and he was also thinking about the q45 motorswap in a 240 because he can get the motor for free. my other buddy has a 87(i think) rx7 with an ls1 in it on i beleive a 100 shot, car has yet to hit the streets yet tho lol
more done today, the rear bumper is sanded completely, front bumper is 95% sanded, going to take home the side skirts and sand them during spring break, when i go back in a week the front fenders and bodykit will be primer surfacered, then sand them down mount them on the car, spray the second coat of primer surfacer on the entire car, wet sand, seal, basecoat, clear, and finally wet sand and buff. my goal is to have it paint in 3 weeks
