Rebuilt redtop sr running terribly
I'm having a terrible time getting my SR to run correctly. I just had it rebuilt by TougeFactory, and it runs like complete crap. I've checked the timing, which is perfect, and the ECU which is throwing me a 55, so no malfunction. So evidently nothing electronically would be wrong then? There's also spark to all four plugs and fuel through all 4 injectors. I'm just clueless because it sounds like it is only running off of 3 cylinders and it is running really rich. Any help would be appreciated.

IF TF did all the work call them up. They will be more than happy to help you, especially since they did the work on the motor.

same sort of thing happened to me one time when a coilpack went bad, im not sure thought if the motor is getting spark across all 4..

Re: Rebuilt redtop sr running terribly
are you using any type of tuning programs? chips? stand alone? safc? also it could be a coil pack as simon was saying. or ignitor chip, mas air flow, o2 sensor. plenty of reasons why.

Re: Rebuilt redtop sr running terribly
I'm going to clean out all the plugs today and see if that helps at all otherwise I'll check the coilpacks with a multimeter if I get the time tomorrow. Its just fishy to me if its going to be something electric why the Ecu isn't sending me any codes on it. Also I'm not running any kind of performance chip or anything, now there was some bull shit ebay chip (Boss performance chip) on the engine when I bought it, and I'm trying to remember where it was at, but I really can't, but I had TF remove that. And I would think because it wasn't anything that would mess with the ECU at all it shouldn't have done any damage to the ECU? Ignitior chip is brand new btw along with the harness so that should all be well.

Re: Rebuilt redtop sr running terribly
make sure your timing chain is not a tooth off.
contrary to what most people think, an SR WILL start and run with the chain being a tooth off at the crank.. it will just run very poorly, much like what you are describing.
at least that was my problem.

Re: Rebuilt redtop sr running terribly
I checked and rechecked the timing and even compared it to another properly functioning Sr

Re: Rebuilt redtop sr running terribly
We checked the cam timing up top but we never verified that it matched with the timing off the crank gear. That light link I showed you has to line up with a gear on the front of the crank and we can't check that unless we pull the front cover. I assumed TF installed the chain properly but I guess we shouldn't. If it was off a tooth but the dark links were still lined up with the cam gears it would run like shit.

Re: Rebuilt redtop sr running terribly
yep, It took me forfuckingever to figure out that was the issue.
You should be able to check it without pulling the front cover.
when the engine is at cylinder one TDC the cams should be facing directly out away from each other (the lobes). IF the chain is a tooth off, one of them will be angled up a little bit, and the other down (still 180* from each other though, obvioiusly). This will also show you which way the chain needs to be skipped in order to make it right.
IIRC TDC is the second mark from the right on the crank pulley.
thats how I fixed it on my motor anyway, just because I didnt want to go through the hassle of taking the front cover off.
