STANCE COILS, HAIRY SNATCH'S, AND UNDERACHIEVERS
The title is a question, not a statement. I'm gonna be looking around at getting some new coilovers but idk how to pick out the ones that are a.) expensive but worth the money, b.) affordable but still decent, and c.) complete garbage to stay away from. I see companies like Megan and Godspeed are making suspension parts - anyone used these? I know their engine parts can be inferior so I had to ask about suspension. Obviously ones like Stance or DMAX look legit, but for someone who doesn't track their car except for the drag strip occasionally, are they worth the >$1000? I have Tein basics up front and GAB (?) coil-on springs in the back. My Teins are set for the lowest possible ride height and I want MOAR LOWER!! So any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
MOAR LOWER!!!!!

This.
Been so happy with the decision i made to get mine.
Never looked back.
Re: How to tell good coilovers from complete crap
How about adjustability of the Stances? Ride height, camber, damper and rebound, it should be better than my Tein basics right? I definitely want lower ride height, more angle, more control. You guys with Stances have GR+ or Pro?

Re: How to tell good coilovers from complete crap
you can slam your shit as low as you want with stances, camber is preety decent, they can go pretty stiff if adjusted, but if you wanna go even stiffer they make new springs for them.
GR+'s are well worth the money and pros come with a helper spring and cost an extra like 100 i think

Re: How to tell good coilovers from complete crap
honestly man me and my friends have been through multiple sets of coils, so ill give you my opinion.
Tien flex. good quality, stiff as shit and good adjustability, however very bouncy
Megan. good coils with decent stiffness, and a nice overall ride with no outstanding low points
godspeed. just look the other way. they are cheap for a reason and will blow often
apexi n1. my favorite coils yet, felt amazing drifting and good stiffness. good adjustability and with camber plates were adjustable enough for me. i also changed to stance 10k/12k springs that were great for sliding but a little stiff for daily driving
Stance. my second fav. rode great, stiff, and never had any complaints
JIC. probably 3rd on my list. great coils, slightly bouncy but not bothersome, great adjustability and felt great driving.
It really depends on your budget and patience for saving money
Hope this helps

Re: How to tell good coilovers from complete crap
Hmm, this is the first I've heard towards Apexi. They seem to be a little less expensive than the Stance's too. I'm looking in the $900-$1200 range. You would take them over Stance? As long as they can go lowww and have good adjustments and don't cost an arm and a leg I'll be happy.

Re: How to tell good coilovers from complete crap
ya dude i loved my apexi coils. my brother bought the car that i had the apexi's on and he likes them better than anything he has ever had too. and he has been through about 8 or 9 240's, most with coils. the tien flex were his fav. but i hated the bouncy shit. then he rode in my car and slid it for a little while and fell in love lol
but here is a pic. these coils still had about 1.5 inches left of adjustment and these were 17's

my frame hit speed bumps and with my body kit on the front bumper was maybe the thickness of a pack of cigarettes off the ground

now these were the tien flex coils and they were maxed out with the 18's i have pictured on the rear. however it was slightly lower than pictured by maybe an 1/8th of an inch

Re: How to tell good coilovers from complete crap
Man that bottom one is low. You would do the Apexi's over the Tein Flex Coils?
On a side note, you're at Great Lakes NB? I might be doing to Navy HPSP because I'm pre-med but want to join. I gotta get up to Great Lakes to talk to the officer recruiter there. Forgot his name though lol.

Re: How to tell good coilovers from complete crap
i like my jic's they arent bouncy at all and are pretty stiff. they seem to have more rebound in them than some other brands. less rebound = more bounce. lower isnt better in some cases either. esp on the street. save the slammed look for hard parkers and mini trucks.

Re: How to tell good coilovers from complete crap
This is how you tell good coilovers from bad ones...
You look at them... If they look like shit, they probably are.
There are also a gazillion reviews of every coilover, how many have you read?

I've read plenty. I've googled every one that I'm interested in and read as much as I can. But many of them don't have actual user feedback. Great, they have 46mm pistons and they have thick upper mounting plates, terrific. But how do they ride? That's why I'm asking, I want actual positive user information. Have any?

Get Stance GR+ Pro's....
They feel pretty nice, a lot of us run them around here. (so you can ask anyone)
I am sure they will go low enough for you.
DONE.

What he does with his car is his problem, just because he doesn't conform to what we like doesn't mean he "does not understand."
