Sohc ka wont start. help please.
need help.. when i go to start it I can hear the starter cranking but nothing else... also when i try to spin the crank shaft pulley its really frigging hard to turn. i was told by the previous owner that it might have a spun rod?? but if its spun the crank shaft pulley would not turn 360 degrees right? so can anyone help me brainstorm this problem? Please and thank you.

i just looked today and replaced my coil pack and still nothing.. no spark coming from it at all.
Re: Sohc ka wont start. help please.
ya that is possible, could be the reason its so damn hard to turn over.

I was told to see if there was.. but I didn't get the chance yet, ill take the cover off tomorrow and update this.

Crank will be hard to turn by hand. And for the timingchain to be too tight? Never heard that one before. Why don't you get that starter tested out at autozone for free? It's prolly your starter.

Re: Sohc ka wont start. help please.
yea but turning the crank isnt this hard. i have a sohc block and it spins free. and the one in this car i have to give her hell. starter is good no problems with that. idk and there is wiggle room with the timing chain it isnt as tight as i thought.
Re: Sohc ka wont start. help please.
Your timing chain is fine. So does the motor actually turn over then? It does but very slowly? Your motor also has the sparkplugs on and all the other crap on it. You should take a video and post the mofo up.

Re: Sohc ka wont start. help please.
yes the motor turns and yes just really slow and hard. spark plugs are new wires are almost new lol. everything is plugged in. I will see about posting a video tomorrow.
Re: Sohc ka wont start. help please.
so you're gettin fuel, but from where? pump must be okay, but are your injectors working properly? check engine light showing? run a diagnostic on the ecu and pull up some codes? do you have enough motor oil in there? are you sure you're not in gear while you're trying to crank it by hand?? i dunno, just some things I would check if I was there in person. You also said spark plug wires are almost new, check the boot and make sure the insulators and seals aren't cracked. do you have a multi-meter to check em? where's the video??

Re: Sohc ka wont start. help please.
I havent had time to go make a video and its been raining on and off for the past week. I will get one asap.
Re: Sohc ka wont start. help please.
ok it is gettin fuel the pump is good. it has spark, I messed with the timing and now instead of doing nothing there is a very small put put comming from the tail pipe. (you cant hear it in the video) so What im thinking is ill advance it more the way I was turning it and see if I get more of a put put. also there is enough oil in it. It might be off by 180 degrees because the way everything is sitting isnt how it looks in my repair manual. so if it IS off what is an easy way to advance the cam sprocket dealy?
Re: Sohc ka wont start. help please.
So youreplaced the timing and it stopes running? Did the car run good before?

Well, I wouldn't know of any shortcuts to fix the timing, but it does look like that can be your problem. Compression and valve positioning at the wrong time would explain why its hard to crank by hand too. Good luck on it. I hope that fixes it.

Re: Sohc ka wont start. help please.
like its been previously said get the starter checked out. i would recomend also getting the battery checked. nothing has been said about that yet and it seems like is a lil low in the vid. also how about oil? since you said youve never had it running before(if i read it all correctly) did the previous owner ever change the oil? im almost begining to wonder if the piston rings are damaged or bad. its hard to say without the engine not getting any ignition (even slight) in any of the cylinders.
ive never owned a 240 or been in an engine out of one but something you should really watch out for when your playing with the timing is the valve clearance on the piston heads. id hate to see someone mess up an engine doing that. does anyone know if this would be a problem?
even if you are advancing the timing a little bit it shouldnt matter but its still something to be careful of. i know motors in new cars are non-interfereing so that the pistion head and the valves will never meet in the even of a timing belt slipping or breaking, and then bendning all your valves.
